Edna Gardner Whyte
Edna Gardner Whyte (1902– February 1992) was an aviator from Minnesota. She made her first solo flight in 1926, from Seattle. She received her pilot's license in 1928.
Whyte founded two airports and trained hundreds of military pilots in World War II.
She won more than 80 aviation awards, including the Charles Lindberg Lifetime Achievement Award. She was the first woman to be an honorary member of the Daedalians, a worldwide fraternity of military pilots.
She was married to George M. Whyte, with whom she operated Aero Enterprise Flight School in Fort Worth until his death in 1970. She then opened Aero Valley Airport in nearby Roanoke, where she continued flight instruction.
